Dr. Lanigan's Bio:

Dr. Lanigan is a professor in the Department of Communication, Media, and Performance at Governors State University. She has spent two decades teaching instructional design, training, technology, and communication classes, such as: needs assessment, task analysis, training evaluation, project management, solving performance problems, organizational communication, systems thinking, public discourse, persuasion, ethics, research methods, consulting, principles of message design, and more. She has taught over 23 different classes in two distinct fields, that is, communication studies and human performance and training (also known as instructional systems technology).

Dr. Lanigan is a four-time Award of Excellence winner from the International Society of Performance Improvement (ispi.org) for her evaluation research, book, and training CDs. Furthermore, she is the recipient of three Faculty Excellence awards from GSU.

Dr. Lanigan has presented at national and regional conferences, and has written articles for Performance Improvement, Performance Improvement Quarterly, The Journal of Insurance Trainers and Educators, the International Journal of Intercultural Relations, Communication Teacher, and College Teaching. She also has written many books, such as Instructional Design for College Teaching: Moving Students toward Optimal Knowledge, Skills, and Efficacy; Public Speaking for Beginners: Examples and Analyses; and, Creating Evaluation Instruments to Predict Behavior Transfer: A New Theory and Measures in Training Evaluation. She has also written a few technology books.

Before becoming a professor, Dr. Lanigan worked as a corporate trainer. She also worked on a gubernatorial campaign and as an employee in the Employee Assistance program for the State of Illinois.

Besides her formal education (see below) Dr. Lanigan is a lifelong learner. Throughout her years, she has earned certificates in editing from the University of Chicago; paralegal studies from the University of Arizona; advanced paralegal studies from the University of Tennessee; distance education from Indiana University, Bloomington; employment law certificate from Barbri; copyright law from Harvard University through their online HarvardX program. She has even taken classes at the Second City Training Center in Chicago.

Teaching

As a full-time faculty of the Communications department at GSU for over twenty-five years, she is the most senior member on the tenured-track. Over the last two decades, she have taught numerous courses. Here are some examples; this list is not complete.

Dr. Lanigan's Ph.D. is from Indiana University, Bloomington as well as two of her three Master's degrees. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
